These terms apply when you use the Money-Sense website and tools at www.money-sense.co.za. They are an agreement between you and Money-Sense ("we", "us"). By creating an account, paying for access or using the tools you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use Money-Sense.
Money-Sense is an online budgeting tool for South African households. You enter your take-home pay, household details and monthly spending. Money-Sense compares them with a benchmark budget for a household like yours and shows where you are on track and where you are stretched. It also offers calculators, planners and plain-language guides.
Money-Sense is software delivered over the internet. We do not sell coaching, consulting, financial products or templates.
Money-Sense provides financial education and general information. It does not give financial advice. It does not recommend any financial product, provider or fund. The benchmarks and results are guides based on the figures you enter and on assumptions that can change. Please speak to an authorised financial services provider or a registered debt counsellor before you make a financial decision.
You can run the public budget check without an account. To save reports, compare them and use employer-funded access you create an account with your email address or your South African mobile number, a password and, if you have one, your company code.
You must give accurate details, keep your password safe and tell us if you think your account has been used without your permission. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Accounts are personal. Please do not share yours.
There are three ways to use Money-Sense:
Payments are processed by PayFast, a South African payment provider. We do not see or store your card or bank details. Fees are charged in South African rand and are billed monthly in advance on the date the subscription starts. VAT is added where it applies.
If a payment fails we may pause access until it is paid. Nothing is deleted while access is paused. Access resumes when the account is brought up to date.
An employer receives a company code, a sign-up link and a QR code. It can share them with its staff. The employer sees group totals only, for example how many staff registered and how many were active. It never sees who registered or anything an employee entered. Any figure based on fewer than ten people is shown only as "fewer than 10".
The company code is renewed once a year. People who were given the previous code have 30 days to enter the new one. If the employer's payment stops, access for its staff is paused and their information is kept safe until payment resumes. Staff who leave an employer keep their own personal account.
You or we may end the subscription by giving one calendar month's notice. The full detail is in our Cancellation Policy.
Our Refund Policy explains when we refund a payment.
